Gamer Network, Unequalled Media and Capcom have revealed that EGX 2016 will host a Capcom Pro Tour Street Fighter V tournament.

Street Fighter V

“The Capcom Pro Tour [CPT] is the world’s most exciting fighting game tournament and showcases the talents of the very best competitors. Expert players will take part in Street Fighter V tournaments all over the world, scoring ranking points in the hope of making it to the grand final – the Capcom Cup – and emerging as world champion.

In 2015 EGX successfully hosted a Ranking Event for the Capcom Pro Tour which saw players from all over the UK and Europe compete for valuable CPT points and a sizeable prize pot. Building on that success, EGX will now host one of Europe’s three Premier Events with even more ranking points up for grabs and a massive $15,000 prize pot. The winner of the EGX Premier Event will collect $7,000 along with a guaranteed spot in the Capcom Cup at the end of 2016 and the opportunity to become world champion.

The Premier Event will be hosted on the expanded Fight Zone stage at EGX 2016 and is set to take place over three days of the UK’s biggest games event – Friday 23rd September to Sunday 25th. The Unequalled Media team, with their unrivalled fighting game tournament expertise, will once again act as organisers. Those interested in competing should await entry details which will be revealed later in the year.”

I’m sure this tournament will get a lot of interest – EGX 2015 had a Fight Zone and it was ALWAYS full. It’ll be pretty exciting to see the talent on show this year. I know I won’t be entering – my time playing the Street Fighter V beta hasn’t been very successful. Still, I’ll be sure to check out the tournament this year.

EGX 2016 takes place at The NEC, Birmingham between September 22nd and September 25th, with this year’s event due to have more playable games, more features and more floor space than ever before! Tickets go on sale tomorrow – find out more on the EGX website through this link.
