Check out our gaming news round-up for January 16th 2018, including the release date of new DLC for Assassin’s Creed Origins, the official reveal of Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition, and Bandai Namco’s new Gundam game.

– Assassin’s Creed Origins’ ‘The Hidden Ones’ DLC is launching on January 23rd

Those excited to take Bayek on a new adventure across Egypt don’t have long to wait – Assassin’s Creed Origins’ first DLC ‘The Hidden Ones’ is coming to all platforms on January 23rd.

“This story-driven expansion builds upon the growth of the Brotherhood, taking players four years after the events of Assassin’s Creed Origins, as they clash with an occupying Roman force in a new region of the world, the Sinai. This expansion will increase the level cap to 45, allowing players to continue to upgrade and customise their character. Players will have access to four new Legendary weapons, a new outfit, two new mounts and multiple new weapons, as well as two new levels for all crafted gear. The Hidden Ones DLC is available for all season pass owners or can be purchased separately.”

It sounds like it’s going to be a meaty piece of content, which is great for those who are itching to get into the Animus again. Not bought Assassin’s Creed Origins yet? We’d highly recommend it – check out our review through this link.

– Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition has been officially revealed – PC edition of the game launches in March

It’s hardly been a secret now, but I don’t like to talk about anything ‘unofficial’ or that’s a ‘rumour’ so this is the first time I’ve got to talk about Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition – essentially the ultimate edition of Final Fantasy XV that includes the base game, all of the DLC, and some brand new content. You can find out more about the extras down below.

• Expanded Map: Insomnia City Ruins – all-new side quests and enemies such as Cerberus and Omega will be available through the expanded map of the Crown City of Insomnia. Players can also take on a battle with the Rulers of Yore
• A fully-controllable Royal Vessel boat, expanding the world of Eos and allowing players to explore the area between Cape Caem and Altissia. Players will also be able to fish aboard the vessel and discover new fish and recipes
• A new accessory that can activate the new action “Armiger Unleashed” – players will be able to unleash powerful attacks while the Armiger is summoned. After collecting all of the royal arms, players will be able to find an accessory in an unidentified part of the world, enabling access to Armiger Unleashed
• A new first-person camera mode, allowing players to experience the game from Noctis’ perspective
• More than a dozen pieces of downloadable content including weapons, Regalia car skins and item sets
• All current season pass content including: EPISODE GLADIOLUS, EPISODE PROMPTO, MULTIPLAYER EXPANSION: COMRADES** and EPISODE IGNIS
• Archive – players can review the “Cosmogony” stories scattered throughout the FINAL FANTASY XV world. Additional local myths and legends will also be placed in various new locations. Through them, players will be able to obtain more information about the world
• Quest to obtain and Strengthen Regalia Type-D

Square Enix have also confirmed that the PC edition of the game will also include all of this content, and that it will release on March 6th (as will the Royal Edition on consoles). Anyone who owns the game already can also get the Royal Edition content as DLC, so they don’t have to miss out. Perfect.

– Bandai Namco reveal the latest game based upon the Gundam franchise – New Gundam Breaker

It doesn’t feel like that long ago that we had Gundam Versus, but Bandai Namco are back with another game in the popular Gundam universe. This time it’s New Gundam Breaker, and you can check out a short teaser for the game below:

“New Gundam Breaker will offer an exhilarating experience to players as they are able to destroy incoming hostile Gunplas, gather those parts and seek to construct their very own Gundam!”

We’ve not got too many details yet, but the fact that you can create your own Gundam is going to drive some fans insane with joy. You can expect to see New Gundam Breaker launch on the PlayStation 4 in 2018.

– Puzzle-action series Scribblenauts returns this March with Scribblenauts Showdown

I haven’t played Scribblenauts in years (truth be told, I forgot it existed), but I am excited to see that its making its return this March to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch with Scribblenauts Showdown. The fact it’s going to be a party game is a little disappointing, but it still sounds like it could be fun. You can check out a (fairly brief) teaser trailer for the game below:

“In the game’s Showdown mode, up to four players face off and imagine their way to victory through card-based strategy and creative skill. “Wordy” mini-games require unleashing the best object or character from the vast Scribblenauts dictionary of over thirty thousand words to outsmart an opponent. Action-oriented “Speedy” mini-games reward the player who completes a given challenge first. A board game style map displays players’ progress. With multiple ways to make up ground, every player has a chance to win, which keeps the excitement going until the end!

In Versus mode, two players can go head-to-head in more than 25 mini-games that vary in every session. The mini-games can also be enjoyed by a single player. Versus mode allows continuous play of games by shuffling players into game after game for non-stop fun.

Sandbox mode, the Scribblenauts series’ cherished creative playground, allows one or two players to solve objectives in eight new levels by summoning any object they can imagine and earn hidden Starites and achievements. Players can also let their imaginations run wild by unleashing whatever objects they can think of and watching them interact in unexpected ways.

Adding to the family fun, players can either choose, or design, their own original Scribblenaut to represent them throughout the game, all drawn in the classic Scribblenautsart style. The Scribblenaut can be further customised with unique clothing and quirky accessories by earning Starites and completing achievements.”

Scribblenauts Showdown is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on March 9th 2018.

– First-person puzzler Q.U.B.E. 2 gets is officially coming out Q1 2018 (and gets a new trailer to celebrate the news)

We were big fans of the original Q.U.B.E., so it’s great to see that we don’t have to wait too long for its sequel – it’s going to launch sometime during Q1 2018. To celebrate the news, a brand new trailer has been released which you can check out down below:

“Q.U.B.E. 2 features a new cast of characters thrust into an unearthly situation that will delight both newcomers and fans of its predecessor alike. This sequel puts players in the role of archaeologist Amelia Cross as she awakens in an alien world with no memory of how she got there. Armed with a strange pair of gloves that let her manipulate the environment, Amelia must navigate a maze-like monolith full of puzzles in search of another survivor, Commander Emma Sutcliffe, whom she is connected to via radio communication. Together they must find a way home.”

Q.U.B.E. 2 is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in Q1 2018.

– Kingdoms: New Lands makes its way to the PlayStation 4 today

Raw Fury have released their very good ‘kingdom-settling sim’ Kingdom: New Lands on PlayStation 4, after it’s launched everywhere else already. I actually think that Kingdom: New Lands is a great little game and it’s ridiculously addictive, so if you’ve missed out on it in the past now is the perfect time to grab it. You can see it in action in the trailer below (and yes, I know it’s the Switch trailer, but it’s the same game…):

“The critically acclaimed and award-winning Kingdom: New Lands is now available on PlayStation 4 for the first time ever! Every update that has come to the game over the last couple years, including the latest Skull Island content, is jam packed into this version of Kingdom: New Lands. All of the mysterious statues, faithful mounts, peculiar hermits, and the greedy creatures trying to make your Kingdom fall are all here and waiting for you to stake a claim in this new land.“

– Monster Energy Supercross is getting a track creator

So I’ve never really been a huge fan of Supercross games but I love being able to create my own tracks, so the news that Monster Energy Supercross is getting its own track creator is pretty sweet. Nintendo fans might be disappointed though, since the track creator isn’t coming to the Nintendo Switch edition of the game. Sad face. Check it out in the trailer below:

“This feature is designed to give users the opportunity to be part of the most competitive and highest-profile off-road motorcycle racing championship in the world like never before; creating, customizing and sharing online their own tracks for endless gameplay possibilities.

Choose the Stadium:
First step to generate a custom track is to pick the perfect stadium: choose football or baseball, outdoor or indoor and even customizing its size. Once the stadium is set, players can move on to create their own track.

Become the Track Designer:
The track editor is based on a modular system, where players can choose among more than 80 modules to be assembled to generate their custom tracks. First step is to place the starting grid, then, to unleash the imagination. Players can select among the many track pieces available: curves with different angles, whoops, single and triple jumps or rhythm sections and straight lines until closing the track with the finish line.

Module by module, the track will come to life and when finished, players can upload the track online and make it available for other users. The track editor allows players to generate thousands of different tracks to race alone and online, as well as download custom tracks from the community.”

Monster Energy Supercross is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on February 13th 2018.

– Flight exploration title InnerSpace launches on PC and consoles today

So this one flew under the radar (get it?) for me, but now I’ve had a chance to check it out it looks pretty neat. InnerSpace is an exploration flight-sim where it’s like “flying in an inverted universe of inside-out planets, a mind-bending realm where there is no up, no down, and no horizon” – sounds bizarre, right? Well it looks great and, best of all, it’s out today on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Check it out in the trailer below:

“You are the Cartographer. In the final days of the Inverse, you must help the Archaeologist recover the last remaining memories before they are lost forever. Fly through ancient skies and abandoned oceans to discover the lost history of this fading realm, where entire civilizations have vanished, yet their gods still wander.”

– Egyptian-themed shooter Immortal Redneck blasts its way to consoles next month

I’ll be honest, I’d never even heard of Immortal Redneck before, but now I’ve seen it I desperately want to play it. Basically, it’s a retro-style first person shooter where you take on the role of a Redneck who has to take on hordes of Egyptian monsters. You’re sold, right? Console gamers can get their hands on it next month – For now though, you can see it in action in the trailer below:

“When our titular Redneck wrecks his dune buggy in the sun-bleached sands of Egypt, he wakes to find himself mummified. Now he’s got a hankerin’ to find out who wrapped him up, and old-school arcade first-person shooting, a healthy arsenal, and the blessings of ancient gods are the only boons on his quest.

The Redneck’s answers lie in the Great Pyramids of Giza. These ancient wonders are protected by an army of monsters that can send our hillbilly back to the grave and restructure the pyramids’ labyrinthine halls. Players can attempt to uncover the secrets of the pyramids through the standard mode, or try to best their own personal record in the Infinite Tower mode, where endless floors await.

The Redneck will have to frantically blast, circle strafe, and bunny-hop around Egyptian warriors and sarcophagi, and he’s going to have fun doing it. Except for when he dies…again. And again. But a silly little thing like death is not the end in Immortal Redneck. With the power of resurrection, gold earned in one life can be used to unlock permanent upgrades from a persistent skill tree, such as health and damage bonuses, or new favors from the gods.”

Immortal Redneck is launching on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 27th 2018, with a Nintendo Switch release coming later in the year.
