Check out our gaming news round-up for January 18th 2018, including a first-look at Nintendo’s ‘cardboard-game’ hybrid Labo, a new trailer for Batman: The Enemy Within’s fourth episode, and the release of a game all about penises. Um, yeah.
– Nintendo unveil Labo – an all-new cardboard powered gaming experience
So, wow. This is different, but then again, what would you expect from Nintendo? This news was revealed yesterday so I’m a little late getting onto it, but I feel it certainly needs highlight. Nintendo are releasing new cardboard-game hybrids that allows you to craft your own accessories for the games you play.
Sounds bizarre, right? Take a look at the trailer below to get a better understanding of the game:
“Building on the history of Nintendo, which is rooted in innovative entertainment and gameplay experiences, Nintendo Labo continues the company’s mission of putting smiles on people’s faces. With each Nintendo Labo kit, inspired minds across all generations can transform modular sheets of cardboard – specially designed to interact with the Nintendo Switch console and Joy-Con controllers – into interactive creations called Toy-Con. From a piano to a motorbike, a robot and more, each Toy-Con comes to life when combined with the Nintendo Switch in different ways. As you make, you will have fun discovering how the technology works and even invent new ways to play with each Toy-Con.
For example, you can make a functioning 13-key piano that brings your musical arrangements to life once the Nintendo Switch console and Right Joy-Con controller are inserted. As you play, the IR Motion Camera in the Right Joy-Con detects which keys are pressed and plays each note through the console’s built-in speakers. Budding musicians can also experiment with their own musical creations.
Or, you can take control of your very own motorbike by constructing a functioning set of handlebars, with a Joy-Con inserted in each side and the Nintendo Switch console cradled in the middle. Simply hit the ignition button, turn the right handle to engage the accelerator, and watch your adventure unfold on the Nintendo Switch screen, as you race to new destinations.
With Nintendo Labo, making and discovering is just as much fun as playing. Every Toy-Con creation presents exciting challenges and varying degrees of complexity, so each one is a unique experience. Making Toy-Con is especially fun with family and friends, as you collaborate and share each other’s Nintendo Labo experiences. Once built, those with a creative touch can customise their Toy-Con creations with their own colouring pens, stickers and paint to give them a personal feel – the only limit is their imagination.”
It looks brilliant and I can’t wait to try it out.
The Nintendo Labo Variety Pack and Nintendo Labo Robot Pack are both launching for the Nintendo Switch on April 27th 2018. Find out more on the official website through this link.

– The Fall Part 2: Unbound launches on February 13th
I was a big fan of the prequel, so I’ve been pretty excited to check out The Fall Part 2: Unbound ever since that cliffhanger ending. There’s not too long to wait now – the game is officially launching on February 13th. A new trailer has been released to celebrate the release date unveiling that shows off the new ‘Companion’ character:
“The Fall Part 2: Unbound is a hybrid of haunting metroidvania exploration merged with brain teasing point-and-click adventure puzzles and a healthy dose of chilling hard sci-fi. This sequel picks up right where its predecessor left off as we follow the exploits of A.R.I.D., a rogue AI who’s rewritten its protocol to follow one rule: “save myself”. The new parameters of A.R.I.D.’s programming have allowed her the ability to possess new hosts including a posh, reality-divorced Butler, a sexy service Companion and a mysterious combat drone, known as “One”.”
The Fall Part 2: Unbound is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on February 13th 2018.

Developer DONTNOD have launched the first episode of their web series that shows off the creation of their upcoming action-RPG Vampyr today, with episode one focusing on ‘Making Monsters’. You can check it out down below:
“In Episode I: Making Monsters, DONTNOD gives more information about Jonathan Reid, the doctor-turned-vampire that players will step into the shoes of in Vampyr. – Crytek have announced a Closed Alpha for their upcoming co-operative bounty hunting game Hunt: Showdown
Hunt: Showdown is one of those games that I’m eagerly anticipating, but has seemed to fall off the radar a bit. Hopefully, I might be able to give the game a play soon – Crytek have announced that a Closed Alpha for the game is taking place later this month for a group of specially selected PC players.
“Starting on Jan. 31, a select group of PC gamers will be able to play Hunt: Showdown regularly as part of the game’s closed alpha testing phase via Steam. During closed alpha, the Hunt team will be testing gameplay, balancing, and backend functionality, as well as collecting feedback from the community. Closed alpha testers will be randomly chosen from the sign-up list, and those chosen will receive an email invite.
Hunt: Showdown is a competitive multiplayer bounty hunting game that mixes PvP with PvE elements in a handcrafted sandbox environment. During each match up to ten players, hunting solo or in teams of two, track and kill gruesome monsters for a bounty—when they aren’t tracking and killing each other in order to steal it. During Hunt’s closed alpha phase, new content—in the form of new weapons, equipment, traits, and ranks—will be continuously released and tested.”
