Devolver Digital and developer Sabotage have today released The Messenger – a 2D 16-bit/8-bit swapping adventure that sees you leading a ninja (because everyone loves ninjas) on a journey to rescue his clan. To celebrate, a new trailer has been revealed that blends together live-action with the colourful sprites from the game:
Brilliant, right? I wouldn’t expect anything less from Devolver Digital’s marketing team.
As a demon army besieges his village, a young ninja ventures through a cursed world, to deliver a scroll paramount to his clan’s survival. What begins as a classic action platformer soon unravels into an expansive time-traveling adventure full of thrills, surprises, and humor.
The Messenger is available today on the Nintendo Switch and PC. You can expect to see our review of the game next week, though it’s already received widespread praise from a multitude of critics.
