Can you think of a better way to promote a video game than by live streaming a bunch of rabbits for twenty four hours a day? That’s what Square Enix have decided to do ahead of the release of Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age with ‘Moogle Watch’ and it’s actually made for some pretty compelling viewing…

Ok, so this isn’t just some random idea that some guy in Square Enix’s marketing team has come up with – it’s actually quite fitting for the game. No, seriously, hear me out.

This is a Moogle:

I’m sure you’d have seen one before. I mean, they’ve featured in just about every Final Fantasy game in some shape or form, be it in the ultra charming ‘Mog’s House’ mini-game in Final Fantasy VII, your personal mail service in Final Fantasy XIV, or even as a party member in Final Fantasy VI. They’re synonymous with the series as a whole and they’ve always had their part to play.

They don’t look like rabbits though, so what’s the deal with the cute little rabbit streaming? Well, this is what Moogles look like in Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age:

They’re a fair bit different to the typical design people are used to and actually do look a fair bit like rabbits, albeit slightly humanoid ones. There’s no doubting they’re incredibly cute though and it’s something that Square Enix have taken advantage of in an incredibly charming way.

In partnership with Vauxhall City Farm in London, Square Enix are live streaming a small group of rabbits that have been given the opportunity to pose as Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age’s Moogles. They’ve called it ‘Moogle Watch’ and it’s freaking great. Just look at the picture below to see what I mean – it’s adorable:

You can tune into Square Enix’s Twitch channel to watch the 24 hour a day stream up until the launch of Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age next week on July 11th. Best of all, viewers can interact with the rabbits in different ways with them able to vote on things like what food the rab- I mean, ‘Moogles’ get to eat – there’s plenty of choice with things like Elixirs (kale), Ethers (broccoli), Phoenix Downs (spinach) or Potions (carrots) available for the little guys to munch on.

I’ve tuned in a fair bit so far to see what the gang have got up to. You can check out a selection of images I’ve grabbed below – believe me, it’s tantalising stuff:

So they’re just chilling out here, eating some food, and completely ignoring the ‘face in the hole’ board I so desperately want them to poke their heads through. That’s fine.

As if to mock me, one has decided that rather than put their head through they’d rather show their behind instead. Very childish, little rabbit, very childish indeed…

Really? This is really how you’re going to act when you’ve got an audience of viewers from all over the world watching you? You’re going to mock them by putting your head through the wrong way? Ok, fine, whatever – no Potions for you.

You can see how he’s carefully checking the hole out, making sure he can fit his head through. I believe in this little rabbit. I believe he will be the one who goes around the other side and puts his head through properly for the world to gaze at in awe…

…Or not. Obviously all this hard work of not doing what I want him to has gotten to this little rabbit and he needs to have a rest. Sigh.

It’s all a bit of fun on Square Enix’s part and I’ve actually enjoyed checking up on the rabbits – there’s something surprisingly entertaining about watching what they get up to and I’ve witnessed a few comical situations unfold.
