It’s fair to say that I absolutely adored Granblue Fantasy: Relink when I reviewed it back in 2024, with the game managing to streamline the action RPG experience into an incredibly fun package with gorgeous visuals, a brilliant combat system, and a genuinely engaging story. Now, two years on, Cygames are back with Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok, a massive expansion that changes how the game feels to play, completely overhauling and expanding the endgame while adding a hefty chunk of new content.

Endless Ragnarok picks up after the events of the main game, following your crew as they encounter a new threat: the Ragnalia. These are super-powered, god-like creatures tearing up the skydom, and it’s up to you to put a stop to them… should be easy enough, right? The catch here is that Endless Ragnarok isn’t structured like the base game, with the story heavily integrated into the game’s quest counter system. You’ll be taking on increasingly difficult missions, and completing them rewards you with new cinematics and lore dumps that explain the Ragnalia and expand the world of Granblue Fantasy.
This shift in storytelling structure might be a little jarring for some players who loved the more linear adventure of the base game, and I’ll admit, it feels a bit less like a sweeping epic than before. However, it’s a brilliant move for the multiplayer aspect – one of the minor issues with the original Relink was the inability to play story missions in co-op, but by moving the narrative progression into the quest counter, you can now experience the bulk of this new content seamlessly alongside a friend. It keeps the focus entirely on what the game does best: the phenomenal combat and the addictive loop of taking down massive beasts, though that does come at the expense of traditional storytelling.
“Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok isn’t just an expansion, but instead feels like the definitive version of an already fantastic game.”
And, speaking of combat, it remains as thrilling as ever. It was already a masterclass in accessible yet deep action, and Endless Ragnarok simply adds more tools to your arsenal. The biggest (and most exciting) addition is the new summoning system – once you reach the new ‘Chaos’ difficulty tier or higher, you can summon massive creatures to join the fray. This isn’t just an AI companion, but you actually take control of the summoned creature for a set amount of time… yeah, it’s as cool as it sounds, with each completely changing the dynamic of combat and adding a whole new layer of strategy to the already brilliant combat system.
The expansion also introduces six new playable characters right off the bat, with each character feeling completely distinct and bringing new mechanics and playstyles to master. The sheer variety in how these characters handle ensures that combat never feels stale for returning players, making those dozens of hours that you stick into the new quests all the more engaging.

Cygames have also made other significant improvements, particularly with the introduction of ‘The Conflux’ – a brilliant new roguelite mode that rewards you with sigils, upgrade materials, and even crewmate cards to unlock those new characters much faster. It makes the progression feel significantly more rewarding and less like a chore later in the game, which is handy given that you’ll need to put a bit of grinding work in to access the expansion content. And for those who’ve already put the hours into the base game and want to push their characters to the absolute limit, Endless Ragnarok delivers. There are new ‘Mastery Traits’ that allow you to significantly boost stats and passive effects once a character hits the level cap, and a new ‘Weapon Transcendence’ system that essentially allows you to supercharge your weapons. It’s clear that a lot of effort has been made to truly refine the experience, and it goes a long way in making Granblue Fantasy: Relink better than ever to play.
Visually, the game remains stunning. The anime-inspired aesthetic is still gorgeous, and the new boss designs are spectacular. I played the expansion on both PC and the PlayStation 5 Pro, and it ran wonderfully, maintaining the high performance that the original release boasted.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok Review
“I know that the PlayStation 5 has a few high-profile RPGs releasing in early 2024, but honestly, if you’re a fan of the genre, you REALLY won’t want to skip Granblue Fantasy: Relink,” I said in my original review. Two years later, that sentiment stands stronger than ever. Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok isn’t just an expansion, but instead feels like the definitive version of an already fantastic game. It addresses the grindy nature of the endgame, adds meaningful new mechanics, and provides a wealth of challenging new content. If you’re a returning player who enjoyed the base game, this is an absolute must-play, and if you’re jumping in for the first time, you’re in for a spectacular adventure with Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok.
